So much for the blue spruce

High winds this morning broke off the large spruce next to the barn. It was a perfect drop---missed the shed and barn and just touched the electric fence. Almost no damage!!!!

East Side

The east side of the barn is almost painted. It just needs some work on the white trim parts. You can see the horsefield is almost empty and ready for plowing.

Back Garden this morning, July 8.

Spring garden

Back garden on June 15th. The fishing line fence isn't cutting it. It's not confusing the deer at all. Had to replant 8 tomato plants from the deer and 20 from late May frost. Glad I started my own seedlings.

Lops

The Bunnies at 8 weeks. As the ears grew they went lop. They're very fluffy because they are mostly angora bunny.

Corn is King

Despite frosts in the last week of May and a drought,
all of the corn has now germinated.

What is this tree? It flowers in June and then drops the leaves in July. Most of the year it is bare.

OK, what is this? It's a bush and it has a few fruit about the size of a Kiwi in Fall.

4 week olds

Well,at 4 weeks we now only have 3 of the original 6 left. The runt of the litter died the other night. They are driving the mom nuts so I fixed up a cage for them. I keep them in the bucket at night so they stay warm and let them roam in a cage during the day.

These little guys are 2 weeks old today. There were 6 in the batch, but now there are 4. They opened their eyes yesterday. When you put your hand over them, they nibble looking for milk. They already have tiny teeth.

Over 150 years.....

On April 23 our old sugar maples bloomed. Spring is short and quick around here, so you gotta keep watch or you'll miss it. Some people have probably never noticed a maple blossom, so I try to point it out to 'em.

Frogs of Spring

Spring usually arrives on that day in March when you first hear frogs singing in the swamp. This is from April. We cleaned out one of our two little garden ponds to thin out the waterlillies and iris. We counted 8 full size frogs and some very large tadpoles. They were annoyed when we bailed the old water, but don't seem to mind the fresh water we added.

Spent this evening plowing the back field. Will plow the old horse field as soon as it dries a bit more.

Keep Your Horns Sharp

Stosh does a little head banging to sharpen his horns. The weather was pretty good for February so we took a long walk. Have to spend more time with him since his brother, fourtyfive, died.
